Imagine a designer leading a client meeting

What qualities or characteristics come to mind? What factors might have influenced your perception of this person?

To Catherine Cho, Senior Interior Designer at B+H, a leader in Interior Design is someone who is confident, articulate, and knowledgeable.

I see someone who is confident, articulate and knowledgeable, and can seamlessly balance creativity with practicality.

They are strong communicators and problem-solvers who inspire trust, guide discussions with clarity, and ensure design solutions are both beautiful and functional.

As a Senior Interior Designer, Catherine believes that every element in a space should be intentional.

“Whether it’s lighting, materials, or layout. A well-designed space isn’t just aesthetically pleasing; it should also enhance functionality, comfort, and the overall experience of the people who use it.”

How has the interior design industry evolved in terms of gender diversity since you began your career, and what changes would you like to see in the future?

The interior design industry has always had strong female representation, especially at a designer level, but there has been a noticeable shift with more women moving into leadership roles. We need to continue advocating for equal opportunities in leadership, mentorship, and decision-making roles and support women balancing career growth and personal responsibilities.

What is your favourite part of working at B+H?

The collaborative and innovative culture, but most importantly the people! Together, we’re constantly pushing boundaries in design, blending creativity with functionality, and inspiring one another across disciplines to create meaningful spaces.

Could you share one piece of advice for young women passionate about the interior design industry?

Believe in your voice and your vision – confidence and persistence will set you apart. Find what excites you and develop your unique perspective. Build a strong network, seek out mentors, and stay adaptable; your perspective and creativity are valuable to our constantly evolving industry.

To us, Catherine is the perfect example of a designer leading a client meeting.
