Talent Spotlight: Jinta Mathew

International Women's Day 2026

3月 10, 2026

This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to spotlight the women shaping CHIL Interior Design, B+H’s dedicated hospitality studio.

We sat down with Jinta Mathew, Senior Interior Designer at CHIL, to hear her perspective on guest experience, creativity beyond the studio, and the realities of interior design.

Hospitality is about authenticity and empathy. How do you think your perspective as a woman shapes the way you approach the design of a guest experience?

As an architect with an interior designer’s sensibility, I approach guest experience holistically from the macro to the micro. I think about structure, proportion, and flow, then layer in warmth, texture, lighting, and detail to create spaces that are both functional and inviting. As a woman, I bring a natural attention to detail, considering how spaces feel on a human level. My perspective shapes every design choice, helping me craft experiences that are not just seen but truly felt.

What is the one thing about your role that would surprise people the most?

People are often surprised when I tell them that so much of my job isn’t about picking colours or furniture. There’s a big difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator: designers solve problems like space planning, structural challenges, budgets, and regulations, while decorators focus on trending seasonal styles. That behind-the-scenes problem-solving is what I love most about being an interior designer.

When you’re not in the studio, what’s something that you’re passionate about?

Being born and raised in Dubai, ethnically Southeast Asian, and now living in Vancouver has always made me feel a little between worlds. That perspective has made me naturally curious about the world. When I’m not in the studio, I love traveling, discovering new foods, and trying out unique restaurants and bars. Travelling and exploring different cuisines and cultures not only excites me but also inspires my creativity and shapes how I see the world.
