Rooted in the layered evolution of Markham, this hotel transformation reimagines Hilton’s legacy of hospitality through a distinctly local lens. The design traces the city’s journey from its industrial village origins along the Rouge River to its present-day identity as one of Canada’s most dynamic technology and innovation hubs.

The concept, The Metamorphosis of Markham, brings together heritage, renewal, and modern urban comfort. Industrial details, tailored finishes, and subtle spring motifs create a guest experience that feels both grounded in place and quietly forward-looking.

The arrival experience pays homage to Markham’s historic railway station, with a lobby bar and lounge inspired by the romance of vintage train travel, compact carriage comfort, and the rituals of connection and pause. In the all-day dining restaurant, Unionville’s heritage streetscape informs a layered, convivial atmosphere shaped by brick textures, colourful thresholds, and moments of discovery.

Meeting spaces, the executive lounge, and conference areas draw from the city’s history of mills, distilleries, and woolen factories, reframed as contemporary places for exchange, collaboration, and craft. The ballroom and prefunction spaces take cues from nearby Sakura groves, introducing a softer rhythm of celebration through tactile neutrals and references to spring’s quiet warmth.

In the guestrooms, the story turns inward. Inspired by William Berczy, artist and founding figure of the city, each room is imagined as a modern creative retreat: intimate, composed, and restorative.

Together, the spaces form a hotel experience that honours Markham’s past while offering today’s traveller a refined sense of comfort, locality, and renewal.
