Architecture49 and B+H Architects are collaborating in a joint-venture to deliver the development of the Transportation Safety & Technology Science (TSTS) Hub, a pioneering federal project set to redefine collaborative, accessible, and sustainable laboratory facilities in Canada. This dedicated team brings together a wealth of expertise and a track record of success in designing and delivering internationally acclaimed interdisciplinary science facilities for both public and private sectors.
The TSTS Hub aims to evaluate and mitigate transportation safety risks for Canadians, pioneer new technologies to enhance safety certification procedures, improve investigative methods with responsiveness and precision, and overall elevate transportation safety standards.
Reflecting a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and public service, the project is targeting LEED Gold and Fitwel certifications. The design prioritizes flexibility, efficiency, wellness, and collaboration, creating an inspiring workplace that supports both rigorous scientific inquiry and meaningful connection.
Indigenous participation is also central to the project’s approach. Indigenous architects and landscape architects have contributed cultural storytelling and land-based design principles to help meaningfully integrate Indigenous perspectives into the built environment. In partnership with Indspire, B+H and Architecture49 have also established scholarships for Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary studies in architecture, design, and STEM fields, supporting long-term opportunities in education and the design professions.
Expected to open in 2030, the Transportation Safety and Technology Science Hub marks a significant investment in Canada’s research infrastructure and a forward-looking commitment to public safety, collaboration, and reconciliation.
