In order to create an optimal design within a specific context, we draw inspiration from local organisms that have already mastered it. In this instance, mangroves served as our muse for crafting a 101-storey tower tailored to the dynamic conditions of a river delta. By studying their distinctive root structure, we devised a multi-pronged foundation for our tower, mirroring the mangroves’ ability to stabilize and pacify the flow of sand and water. This approach not only enhances biodiversity but also guides our landscaping and public realm strategy beneath the tower.
The design of the Confidential Mixed-Use Tower was a collaborative effort with Robert Bird Group (RBG) and Atelier Ten within the Surbana Jurong Group. We worked with RBG to incorporate insights from dragonfly wings and the Fibonacci spiral to minimize materials without compromising structural integrity. Working alongside Atelier 10, we delved into sustainability strategies inspired by mangrove trees, aiming to reduce energy consumption, sequester carbon, and enhance water efficiency.
