Meeting the international competition Global Class 1 field of play criteria of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), involved replacing the grass fields with high-quality artificial turf pitches. The new University of Toronto pitches are water-based turf fields, which are irrigated before, during and after matches to reduce friction on the ball and create an optimal field of play. The Back Campus Fields are suitable for many sports in addition to field hockey, and in Toronto’s climate, they can be used for playing seasons nearly three times as long as those possible on grass fields. Night field lighting is expandable to accommodate broadcast conditions for significant events.
For the Toronto 2015 Pan Am | Parapan Am Games, B+H oversaw the transformation of grass playing fields at the University of Toronto’s central St. George Campus into the first two international-calibre field hockey playing fields in Ontario.
