Campus As Community

University of British Columbia – Marine Drive Residence

Working collaboratively with Hotson Bakker Boniface Haden Architects, B+H was commissioned to design this student residence campus at the University of British Columbia over three phases. The development features a five-storey podium and five eighteen storey towers incorporating four-bedroom, two-bedroom and single suites to accommodate the variety of living options required.

Located along the edge of the university campus, expansive floor to ceiling windows offer residents and their guests inspiring views of the surrounding landscape and adjacent ocean shore. The site includes a richly landscaped quadrant that connects the grounds to the Pacific Spirit Regional Park. Using locally sourced exposed timber, the amenity building blends well with the natural look and feel of the exterior design and makes a natural connection between nature and the built environment.

The Marine Drive Residences offer students a variety of amenities such as cafeterias, retail and associated common spaces in the Commonsblock. The overall design incorporates a blend of private and communal spaces to ensure students have the most comprehensive and inspirational experience while being housed on campus. Keeping sustainability in mind, the amenity building operates on a highly efficient geothermal heat pump mechanical system.
